"Green Tea is a work of art and needs a master hand to bring out its noblest qualities."

The Book Of Tea By Kakuzo Okakura

Each tea has its own individuality, its special affinity with water and heat, and its unique method of telling a story.

Hachisen's story starts in the pristine elevated highlands of Kagoshima, one of Japan's prime green tea producing regions.

Our story is about an abundance of dense fogs, a sharp difference in temperature from day to night, the use of mineral-rich underground water and our nutrient rich self-made compost which nourishes the soil.

It's a story about our Tea Masters who do not use pesticides, herbicides or anything chemically enhanced.

An honourable story about the cultivation and pure enjoyment of producing some of the finest green teas money can buy.

This is our story, our way, tea the Japanese way!

Our story starts in the pristine elevated highlands of Kagoshima, one of Japan's prime green tea producing regions.

The Kagoshima Prefecture is known for its stunningly beautiful national parks.

These enchanting mountain regions offer a very favourable climate for the production of high grade, high quality green tea.

With a sharp difference between day and night temperatures, heavy morning and evening mists dampening the effects of the sun, and increased humidity, ensures significantly better conditions for growing quality green tea.

The following is only a taste of how Nature's finest brew has touched, influenced, and inspired humanity over time.

The Green Tea story has a fascinating history that has been interwoven through countless cultures in many different ways over the centuries.

The usage of tea for medicinal purposes goes back before recorded history, while its current consumption remains a fundamental part of many people's day to day life.

Lao Tzu, the classical Chinese philosopher, described green tea as 'the froth of the liquid jade' and named it an indispensable ingredient to the elixir of life.

As the West continues to learn of its subtle prestige, variety of form, fullness of flavour, and health promoting qualities, green tea will continue to play an ever-increasing role in the realms of wellness, food, and culture.

The Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea, is a story linked with the appreciation of art and nature, it's a ritual brimming with culture and timeless etiquette.

This is our story, our way, tea the Japanese way!

Our Tea Masters do not use pesticides, herbicides or anything chemically enhanced, just good old fashioned farming techniques.

We adhere to a ‘less and better’ approach to farming.

And believe that when time and effort is put into the growing of green tea, the tea flavour becomes truly excellent.

Through the use of mineral rich underground water and nutrient rich self-made compost we encourage the soil's natural ecosystem to thrive.

Adding this to our unique volcanic soil and a high percentage of daily sunshine we create a green tea that is personified by its refreshing aroma combined with the rich full bodied savoury taste of umami.

Once harvested, the tea is steamed, rolled and then dried by our Tea Masters, creating the best possible green tea, that truly replicates the way tea has been made in Japan for centuries.
